Questions & Answers

Does a dog flap affect home insurance?
For example, installing a cat or dog flap for your four-legged friend may deem your back door as less secure; if you fail to mention this change to your insurer this could then invalidate your insurance policy.

Is it worth getting a dog flap?
This is particularly useful if you work long hours. Keeps your dog stimulated – Having a dog flap can combat boredom for many dogs. They'll also get stimulation from the sights, sounds and smells of being outside.

Are dog flaps a security risk?
In most cases, no. Most dog doors aren't typically prime targets for burglars, especially since most pet doors are not big enough for a person to squeeze through. Many pet doors are also low enough to the ground that many adults cannot reach up to undo your door's lock from the outside

Can you put a dog flap in a glass door in the UK?
So, the only way to install a new cat or dog flap is to replace the glass panel with a new one. In your new panel of glass, the hole for the pet door is cut before the tempering process, allowing it to fit the specs we need while being as safe as any other glass door you may buy off the shelf.

Can you put a dog flap in a uPVC door?
Available in a range of sizes and colours, our pets doors are suitable for all door types, including glass, wood, composite, uPVC and metal.

What is the disadvantage of a doggie door?
Doggie doors are exit points for small children: Older toddlers can, all too easily, mimic the way your dog gets in and out of them and, if left unsupervised, escape just as easily into the backyard with potentially dangerous consequences.

How do I choose a dog flap?
1: WIDTH. Measure the widest part of your pet, the chest or hips.
2: HEIGHT. Measure your pet from the top of the shoulders to the bottom of the chest or belly, whichever is the tallest part.
3: SELECT SIZE.
IMPORTANT: Remember to allow for your pet's future growth.
*The flap opening sizes listed represent the smallest.

Are dog flaps draughty?
Regular pet doors can be drafty and let in a lot of cold air from the outside, with an electronic door this issue is eliminated as the flap can only open when needed. This make a huge difference if you want to be energy efficient.

Is it safe to have a doggie door?
Potential burglars can use dog doors as an easy access point into your home. However, dog doors are generally small, and it is quite difficult for an adult to squeeze through, but not impossible. Intruders are more likely to peek their heads through the door to get a clear view inside.

Can you lock a dog flap?
Yes, you can manually lock the doggie door. Each door has a manual mechanism that overrides the automatic one. That way, you retain full control over when your dog can come and go. Manual locking is ideal for when you're away from home and don't want to leave the door open for visitors.

Frequently asked questions

Yes you can, if it is single or double glazed, then the glass will need to be replaced by an expoerianced glazier or glass company who can offer you a price for the replacement cost.

Cat flaps come with a kit that includes a paper template that guides you exactly where to drill. With the help of markings, drill a hole in to each corner of the template. Once you have done with drilling the holes, you can get the shape of your cat flap accordingly. These are great for wooden, UPVC/plastic and metal doors, but would recommend a professionaal for anything to do with glass.

No - The cat flap/catflap must be glass fitting and circular as it is very expensive to cut a square hole, although not impossible.

By providing a photo of the glass we can give you the exact price. If you are unable to provide a photo of the glass, then kindly provide some rough dimensions. Please measure from edge of glass to edge of glass you can see left to right and top to bottom.

  1. We would arrange to visit your home or property at a convenient time to get an exact measurement of the current double glazed unit in the door, check what pattern you have and offer a like for like or an alternative if the glass is no longer manufactured.
  2. We would then cut 2 new pieces of 4mm float glass (plain or pattern of your choice) to the exact size as measured, cut a hole in both pieces of glass for the cat flap and then have the glass toughened. (What is toughened glass).
  3. Approximately 2-3 day later the cat flap glass will be ready to collect from the toughening plant.
  4. We will then create a sealed doubel glazed unit which will have the hole perfectly placed for the installation of the cat flap.
  5. We will then arrange a convenient time with you to replace your current double glazed unit with the new cat flap ready double glazed sealed unit.
  6. The cat flap is installed once at the property

We're afraid not as the glass is already toughened when you try to cut it and the glass would break into hundreds of thousands of pieces!

Just be prepared to be a bit more patient with older cats who may not have used a cat flap before. Use a food reward for your cat and try playing in close by so they get used to being nect to it. Leave the flap open so they can see outside as curiosity will entice them closer until they eventually go through it.

No - The glass in the door should already be toughened and you can not cut toughened glass, so we will need to replace the unit (worth hanging on to the double glazed unit we take ut as should you move or need to put this back at a later date will save you some money).

Do You Fit Into Cavity Walls.

We DO NOT install through cavity walls; we recommend that you hire a professional builder for this type of installation.

Cat flap installation in a brick wall has many pitfalls; it is messy, expensive and time-consuming. there may be pipes or wires we can not see.

If this is your preferred route or only option you have for your home, we strongly advise you to consult with a qualified builder before considering installing a pet door through a wall, always ensure they have relevant building experience, qualifications, insurance and that they can comply with all building regulations.
